Barcelona | 2023
Within the 2023 Model Architecture Festival, METRONOM organized a round table among several young architecture teams trained in Barcelona who were working on social housing projects. The day was an open place for debate and exchange of ideas with the primary intention of highlighting the needs that the social housing of the future must consider and how Covid-19 affected the approach to spatial design in multi-family housing.
During the pandemic, and due to the lockdown that took place in 2020, the poor architectural and spatial quality of many of our homes became palpable: from the low adaptability and flexibility of use of domestic spaces to other needs (sports, teleworking, leisure, etc) and its little or almost no relationship with outside space. This fact brought to the surface once again the class differences within our society.
