Palma de Mallorca | Finalist in competition 2020
The new social housing building in the Soledad neighborhood of Palma de Mallorca proposes a typological and formal dialogue with the old factories of the post-industrial neighborhood. A new long volume with a clear regular façade is proposed, with a gabled roof and a façade made of a sandstone called “marès” – a local material of the island. The dwellings are flexible, open-plan and have two façades to improve lighting and ventilation. Most of them can be accessed directly from the street, thus rescuing this characteristic from the popular houses of the neighbourhood and increasing activity on the public street.
