Poble-sec, Barcelona | 2022
The proposal reforms and expands an old popular house in the Santalia neighborhood, on the slopes of Montjuïc. The ground floor and its mezzanine are rehabilitated as a loft, that opens up to two patios. A second home is built on top of the existing volume, with a light wooden structure. A broken geometry is proposed, opening the second house to the rear garden, taking advantage of the south orientation and the views to the park. This geometry offers cross-views between the different rooms, while allowing natural light to enter the house on the ground floor. The zig-zag of urban planning is used to fit an access nucleus to the second home.
